Shenyang, May 1 — (Xinhua News Agency, reporters Ding Feibai and Hong Kerun) "Signal open,
doors closed, departure on schedule." At 8:25 a.m. on May 1st, train G920 bound for Beijing
smoothly pulled away from Shenyang North Station. In the driver's cabin, EMU driver Huang
Bin sat upright at the controls, his right arm extended straight ahead. He has devoted 15
years to this profession.
At 43 years old, Huang Bin is an EMU driver with the Shenyang Locomotive Depot of
China Railway Shenyang Group Co., Ltd. Over 15 years of driving EMU trains, he has safely
operated nearly 2,500 trips and traveled 2 million kilometers in complete safety—equivalent
to circling the Earth 50 times. "First run," "first time," "most"—these milestones have
marked his career repeatedly.
At age 20, Huang Bin graduated from Dalian Railway Locomotive School. Eight years
later, he emerged from fierce competition to become an EMU driver.

Those who know Huang Bin are aware of his particular habit: he loves studying his
"books." Sometimes he even brings his operational manual to read during meals. At the same
time, he is passionate about studying locomotive design, and whenever he has free time, he
seeks guidance from veteran technicians.
To operate a train smoothly and brake precisely requires understanding train control
principles and operating characteristics. To master these fundamentals, Huang Bin studied
diligently and conducted repeated experiments. Gradually, he developed operational
techniques for different train models and various line segments, carefully studying optimal
running speeds and braking timing by analyzing track curves, gradients, and switch speed
limits across different sections.
Over time, Huang Bin refined and summarized 18 operational methodologies based on
the performance characteristics of five different EMU models and their respective routes,
providing invaluable experience for safe EMU operation and smooth control.
On February 18, 2016, Liaoning Province experienced a rare ice storm disaster. The
D10 train under Huang Bin's command was temporarily rerouted to operate on the
Shenyang-Dalian Expressway Line and the Pan-Ying Expressway Line.
"With ice accumulation on the overhead contact line, the train could stop at any
moment," Huang Bin explained. Facing the disaster weather with composure, he employed a
brief main circuit breaker disconnection technique in the most severely iced section of the
overhead line to maintain stable line voltage and ensure safe operation.
Huang Bin is committed to cultivating new talent. Han Shifeng, an EMU driver in the
EMU Operations Workshop at Shenyang Locomotive Depot, said: "Huang Bin is a 'gold medal
instructor' at our unit. He not only teaches business and skills, but is also very
approachable. I genuinely admire him from the bottom of my heart."
Fifteen years have unfolded along steel rails. "Every time I see high-speed trains
galloping across China's vast landscape, I feel overwhelming happiness," Huang Bin said. "In
the future, I will continue to use responsibility and love to pave a safe path for
passengers."
