Under high temperature roasting, the rail
maintenance opens "night mode"
It is reported that starting from July 28, many parts of
the
country have been hit by continuous high-temperature and sunny weather. The surface
temperature in some areas has exceeded 60℃, and the railway tracks are facing safety
risks
such as thermal expansion and deformation, and rail gap shrinkage. The railway
department
has urgently activated the highest-level high-temperature emergency plan, organizing
more
than 1,200 maintenance workers and over 300 professional equipment to carry out a
"nighttime
railway track maintenance campaign" along the Beijing-Shanghai-Shenzhen high-speed
railway
lines.
Trains from 0:00 to 4:00 every day are out of service.
During the "window period", the railway tracks are brightly lit in the night.
Maintenance
workers, wearing reflective vests and carrying tools such as infrared thermometers and
torque wrenches, measure the temperature of the rails section by section, focusing on
checking weak links such as expansion joints of continuous welded rails and curved
sections.
To address the hidden danger of rail expansion and derailment easily caused by high
temperatures, the staff first use hydraulic track jacks to lift the rails, then
calibrate
the rail direction with laser collimators, and use tamping machines to compact the
ballast,
ensuring that the rail gauge error is controlled within 2 millimeters. At the same time,
"physical cooling" is applied to the rails by spraying special cooling agents and
loosening
rail fasteners. As of August 5, 328 kilometers of rails have been maintained under high
temperatures, and 156 hidden dangers such as rail surface scratches and loose fasteners
have
been handled, ensuring the smooth operation of trains in high-temperature weather.
